Are cars insured while being shipped?
When shipping a vehicle, all legally authorized car carriers operating within the United States are required by law to have some sort of cargo protection insurance. These documents must be provided at your request prior to loading.
All car shipping protection policies are different so be sure to ask exactly how much your vehicle is insured for and make sure to get it in writing.
How to prove damage occurred during transport?
At both pickup and delivery locations, the driver will conduct a vehicle inspection report which would document the current condition of the automobile being transported. This record will be made on the Bill of Lading which also serves as the order receipt. If the condition of the vehicle appears to have been damaged during shipping, this document would be the way to prove it.
Make sure to assist the driver while making this report and if there is anything you think that should be noted, be sure to express these thoughts to the carrier driver.
A carbon copy of this invoice should be left with the person releasing the car at pickup and also a copy should be left with the person receiving the vehicle once payment has been made. Collect these documents as proof of purchase for your own records.
